    • What is marketing?

    Marketing is all about identifying and meeting the customer needs profitably.

    A company that analyzes and understands customer needs and then develops products/services succeeds in marketing and also generates revenue.

    Examples of such companies are:

    Apple, Samsung, Reliance, LG, Hindustan Unilever, Patanjali etc.

    • Division of customer need

    Met needs Unmet needs

    • Met needs

    This is a need that companies are aware of and for which already products are available in the market

    Example: toothpaste, soap, oil etc.

    In this case, companies which create better and unique product are rule the market

    • Various customers have different needs. That's why there is variety of products exist in same category.

    Example: Colgate sell 28 type of toothpaste in India

    • Unmet needs

    It is a type of need where companies do not have any product/service

    Example: People of India demanded a car worth under 1 lakh rupees. So, this was an unmet need. But TATA company made TATA Nano to fulfil their needs.

    Similarly, Apple company introduced iPod and iPad.

    • Good companies try to meet the needs of the customer, which are already met

    Great companies fulfil both met and unmet needs of customers.

    Example: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Tata, Mahindra etc.

    And this the main difference in the marketing.

    • Definition of Marketing
    According to American Marketing Association:

    marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.
