  1. You missed one. We had a close call in 2012 when a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection – solar flare on ALL the steroids…at once) missed us by about two weeks (which is the blink of an eye in stellar terms). If it had even come within 2 days of us, it would've knocked us back to the Industrial Age. Nothing electronic would've survived that EMP pulse and it would've given our atmosphere a neat shave. Melanoma all over the world. Going outside, even at night, would turn you into a slice of bacon on a hot griddle.

  2. Black holes are not exempt from the rules of gravity and orbital mechanics. Just because you happen to come close to one doesn't mean you are necessarily "sucked in". More likely you'll be in its orbit, elliptical or parabolic, just like around a star, a planet, or any other celestial body.
