  1. Imagine being so insecure about your own religion that you need to destroy idols of other religions to make yours seem more real. It's like picking a fight at a football match just because your opponent is wearing the shirt of the other team: You're both idiots at the end of the day.

  2. The Great Tokyo Earthquake of 1923 caused horrendous fires that caused most of the earthquake's 100,000 + deaths. Then the Japanese just rebuilt the same wooden structures which burnt down again in the 1945 air raids.

    The main reason was to secure the supply-line of (war critical) iron ore that was being imported to Germany from Sweden, through Norway.
    And I don't think anybody cared about the heavy water stuff until later. I don't think Germany ever thought of it as a particularly valuable resource.
    In fact I don't think Germany ever REALLY had an atom bomb programme. They sort of evaluated the potential of it with some due diligence but ultimately opted to use their resources on other things.
    Like, they researched it.. But they were never really developing it.
