  1. Western portrayals often reduce the Soviet Union to a single nation, but it was officially a union of 15 republics—each with its own language, culture, and identity. Despite centralized control, these republics were considered distinct nations, a fact often overlooked in Western historical narratives.

  2. Does anyone know if any of the historians in this documentary have also studied Russian accounts of this time period? I looked up the three historians in the description (Dan Snow, Suzannah Lipscomb, and Matt Lewis) and didn’t see Russian listed as a foreign language for any of them :/ I know personally if I watched someone recount the history of my country without even learning English to read my country’s historical texts, I’d be insulted 🙁

    Does anyone have any USSR documentary recommendations from historians who are knowledgeable about the people’s language and cultural texts from that time period? Thanks! 🙂
