  1. I recall reading a book by Thor Heyerdahl, called Aku Aku where they raised one of the Easter Island statues and reset the topknot (pukao) back in 1955.
    Also, it wasn't weather and erosion that toppled the statues, they were knocked down by a tribe of slaves, called the short-ears, when they revolted and wiped out most of the long-ears. I did read the book nearly 30 years ago, so details are a little shaky.
