  1. Over 20 years ago, I was a resident at a shelter, then became an employee there before moving into a house. Some of the women I met there were so creative, knew how to survive and make something out of nothing. A lot of them knew how to cook and we had some great meals, especially with food donated to the shelter from area farmers and large grocers like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Schnucks. Some knew how to decorate your room or the dorm area, were their bed was. They took the items that were donated to the shelter and made their area look like it came out of a lux store catalog. Each woman or family was going through a tough time, but we all made it work and I learned a lot from some of these women. Black women can do anything. Our people survived slavery, so we can survive anything. I have seen and some strong black women who moved mountains. To God be all the glory. Amen.🤍🙏🏾🛡️🕊️
