50 yrs later and the vibe is the same. ✨
"Crying won't help you,
praying won't do you no good."
🗺 Wonder how many people alive now feel exactly like this. 😧
great song. But wow, your wife is a fucking 10
They didn't do this live. The recording of the drums in an empty staircase and the front reverb on the tracked harmonica is not easily replicated live. Just enjoy this studio gem.
The drumming sounds like a double accent on the bass, but it was explained to be a single with the echoe effect. But that is not exactly right. Bonham clearly does a double accent after the displaced bass beat. Bass on 1, snare on 2, bass on 'a' of 2, bass on '+' and 'a' of 3, snare on 4. Count 1e+a 2e+a…
My favorite drums are on Misty Mountain Hop. Listen again to only the drums. He does a hard accent on the hi-hat by bringing his hi-hat foot down at the same time as the stick. So in order to do that there is an 8th note rest with right hand when he opens the hi-hat cymbals. It limps along in the phrase.
Great stuff. He did more with the hi-hat on that album than most drummers ever do and he didn't do the 'pss, pss', sound at all.🤓
Thanks you two.❤
What an incredible song, in many ways it’s Led Zeppelin at their absolute finest! Then again they were also at their finest in 30 other songs lol… Everybody’s got different opinions but Carol I 100% agree. Led Zeppelin II is my favorite of all time and it always will be, but the fourth album is a close second and they actually were more mature and more creative and a better band by the time the fourth album came out… I hope now that you’ve heard it all when you’re on a nice road trip play this whole album again from beginning to end without stopping! Besides the songs that you already mentioned don’t forget about Misty mountain hop and Rock ‘n’ roll. All of these songs, even Four sticks all fit together perfectly to make this brilliant album! Houses of the holy will be interesting to see what you think. It’s not my favorite album but I think it is the most creative and brilliant! But when it came out in 1973 when I was 15 years old and I bought it I was quite disappointed. Don’t expect black Dog or rock ‘n’ roll or when the levee breaks. There’s nothing really quite that heavy, although maybe no quarter but it’s a different type of album that really shows their growth. I remember my friend saying when it came out back in 73 that it was the kind of album that five years later would really catch on. That’s really true. It took me a while to realize how amazing Houses of the holy is. Enjoy!
The genre of Levee is hypnotic blues rock.
Levee is my fave on the album. It’s mesmerizing. Hypnotic. When I hear it I just have to stop and vibe out
The first four albums were almost faultless, and then for me started to lose a little impact. This track…….perfect!
the levee is a place where they stored water in America back in the day
