You all know I’m not interested in chasing meme coins, sports bets, or short-term trades. I want systems that pay me whether the market is up, down, or sideways. And with the volatility we’ve seen since April—stocks, crypto, even parts of real estate—I doubled down on one goal this year: generate income no matter what.
Today I want to share four real ways you can earn passive income. No hype, no gimmicks, just practical yield.
The first is covered call ETFs. You’ve probably seen JEPI or SPYI. These funds sell call options on big indexes and pass that premium to shareholders. JEPI’s SEC yield is around nine to ten percent, which means roughly $750-$1,000 a month on a $100k position. The tradeoff is capped upside, and the distributions are usually taxed as short-term gains. But if the market is choppy, these can be great income engines.
The second is dividend ETFs. Think SCHD, VIG, or VYM. These are the Pepsis, Broadcoms, Home Depots, Texas Instruments of the world. They don’t shoot the lights out, but they pay dependable dividends with lower fees and better tax treatment. A $100k here might produce about $4k a year in dividends, and the companies tend to grow over time.
Third is crypto staking. It’s simple: instead of letting your coins just sit in a wallet, you can stake them and earn yield. You can choose a three-month term on stablecoins and earn around twenty percent APY. Obviously there’s platform risk, so you need to do your own due diligence and only stake what you can afford to lose. But for idle crypto, it’s a solid way to generate income while you wait.
Fourth is treasury ETFs. Funds like SGOV, BIL, or USFR currently pay around 4-5% with very low risk. The best part is the interest is exempt from state and local taxes, which makes a meaningful difference if you live in a high-tax state. I park my emergency fund and some extra opportunity capital here. It’s my war chest—defense and offense.
These four streams complement each other well. Covered calls pay you to wait, dividend ETFs pay you to own quality companies, treasuries give you stable income with tax perks, and staking lets your crypto work for you instead of sitting idle.
The goal is simple: don’t let your assets sit around doing nothing. Put your capital to work, stay diversified, and build multiple income streams so your purchasing power stays intact.
