In this episode, I take you on a lively journey through the vibrant street markets of Southwest China—from the bustling alleys of Kunming, to the tropical charm of Xishuangbanna (Yunnan), and the rich local flavors of Guiyang. It’s a “cloud experience” of the most authentic street eats that locals truly love.
You’ll see golden crispy lotus root balls freshly fried on the street, pressure-roasted chestnuts that burst open with heat, savory grilled beef strips, aromatic bamboo tube rice roasted over open flames, sauce-drenched grilled tofu, and even live bee pupae wriggling inside the honeycomb—plus a master chef cooking up real-deal Spicy Chicken (Lazi Ji) right in front of you. Every stop is bursting with early-morning energy, market charm, and the true taste of home.
I also came across some wild medicinal herbs at the markets—used in traditional Chinese medicine, these odd-looking roots are said to reduce swelling and ease leg cramps. Sold alongside fresh veggies and grilled meat, they’ve long been part of the region’s food culture.
There are no fancy restaurants here—just honest, soulful flavors made with care. I started filming at 7AM to capture the most genuine moments before the crowds arrived. Every dish tells its own story.
