As a young girl (50 years ago) my mom would make something similar to this, hers were called cream cookies but in low German Schmaunt Kuchen. These had sour cream as well but also she put cream of tartar in it to fluff up. The topping was a white frosting and sweetened coconut on top. Oh great, now I want to go bake!!
