In November 1095, Pope Urban II delivered a sermon that would echo across centuries. What began as a call to aid the crumbling Byzantine Empire became something far greater: a holy war to reclaim Jerusalem, unite Latin Christendom, and promise salvation to those who took the cross.
In this first episode of our Crusades series, we explore the world that led to that moment—declining empires, rising powers, and the tangled politics of East and West. This is the story of how the First Crusade began.

Strange to present the world as fractured and needing the suni scourge to set it right. These invaders were attacking peaceful Christian majority Egypt, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Jerusalem, Spain. Everything was fine until the original slavers showed up.
we're due for another.
26:51 You mean Millenniums
Great video! I still wonder whether Urban II’s call was driven more by politics than by religion.
This isn't accurate… it paints the Christians as the aggressive party and thats not factual at all. It was the muslims pushing in and conquering Christian territories that sparked most of the crusades. The knights templar wasnt created for no reason, muslims were robbing, enslaving and murdering Christians constantly. It really wasnt until they took france and was threatening the pope that Christians took up arms for war. However it is also false to paint early Christians as hippie anti-war pacifist because they most certainly weren't, they would often fight back but would face overwhelming force. We can look at Dracula himself Vlad the impaler and the real story of his life to illustrate these truths. He was prince in europe when the muslim ottaman turks invaded and kidnapped him. When he grew up he put tens of thousands of invading muslims on spikes outfront of his capital city and abandoned it so that when the other muslims came they saw a city of nothing but death and rot and got scared and tried to run away. Dont go painting Christians with your hippie dippy lovey dovey b.s… there's no merit to it. "Praise be to the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle"- psalms 144:1. One does not wear armor for lounging but battle and i wear the full armor of god.
