  1. Pity marketing feels a bit like those dumb ai pictures farming likes, of a crying old person with a birthday cake and a sob story of how no one came to their birthday or something. Or a crying kid who just pained the Mona Lisa but was bullied for having painting as a hobby. It just feels so fake to me, whether or not it's genuine.

  2. There's an author in my genre who is constantly engaging in the woe is me marketing. First she complained about her covers and how some super nice authors helped her out with more "to market" covers (so now they look like all bargain bin indie covers bought from premade sales. Think girl standing over the cover with a generic background and ridiculous font). Then she said no one wanted to read a slow burn. Well, I got maybe three chapters (and the unnecessary prologue) in with KU. The book is tropey, poorly written, contradicts itself, and the characters are flat. Yet every post is about how people don't want to read slow burn. 😑
