Yeah, like what he was saying about the Buddha and the having mode, it is also the living innocent in the garden, until eating from the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Wanting to have more and to know more.
Instead of just being, we grow into never-ending desire for more of what is next so for a moment we might feel that content joy that we used to just be before being educated into something else entirely
Whoa…I started to watch this video because I'm a huge fan of Supertramp…and then, I just settled in and really, really listened to your commentary…and I am so very impressed by the two of you. I tell my kids, and my grandkids too (yes, I've reached that stage of my life) that if one keeps their eyes and ears open, they will have an opportunity to learn something new, each and every day of their lives. Gentleman, I'm so very impressed by what you both contributed to this conversation that began with a simple critique of a band that neither of you were familiar with, and who you both reacted to, in a way that truly gives me so much hope for the types of values that all of us, no matter where we were born, no matter how we were raised, no matter the environment, or culture that we grew up in, still, inexpicably share. A tip of my hat to you both. Bravo!
I really miss hearing real instruments being played 😇 the chorus feels like a lullaby…
Too much talking not enough singing
Great review of the song. You nailed it.
Great song. I remember this one was the big hit of 1979. This whole album Breakfast in America was amazing. Mr Biscuit made a good point about society. I feel that the song is saying what society is telling the author to do. Check out Long Way Home.
I think one of the best reaction of all reaction on YT.
So deep, kudos from a old old guy Supertramp fan!
The perfect child devolves unconsciously into society's expectations of what the world thinks one should be
Read Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis about a rat race man who tries to escape to a freer lifestyle only to be defeated in the attempt and return to a closed life. It relates to the later passage of life where life is shackled by acceptance, expectation and convention in the "The Logical Song".
When a song locksyou in
……enjoy
