  3. This song will make your heart smile! It's as if they invented harmony. Live band, no auto tune, one take, no computerized voice enhancement and one mic for all three of them! Back then (1978). singing was just pure, raw talent. Barry wrote this Magnificent, Timeless, Love Song for his wife Linda and they still together, one woman man for life. Celebrating their 54th anniversary this year. The Bee Gees are 3 brothers who were born on the Isle of Man (a protectorate of the UK) and then moved to Manchester in the UK. They later emigrated to Australia with their parents before returning later on to the UK, before then moving and finally settling in the USA. The one in the middle is Barry (the oldest) and on the left is Robin and the right Maurice who are twins. Barry is the only one left still alive today. Barry wrote this beautiful song for his Wife and was the father of 2 children when this song was recorded. He's been married to the same woman for over 50 years and is the father of 5 children. By the date of this recording, the Bee Gees had already been singing together professionally for 21 years, when Barry was 12 years old and the twins were just 9. At the beginning at 1:09 in the recording it appears that Barry has tape on his chest. Not so…as a small child he was severely burned by scalding water ( a pot fell from a stovetop ). What appears as tape is really from a skin graft. All of the Gibb brothers including little brother, Andy, could sing in that amazing falsetto voice. But Barry was the master, he was able to exercise more control over it. The Gibbs were, in my opinion, the most multi-talented families (more # 1 Hits than any other group) in music history. They wrote their own songs, as well as writing songs for many other musical greats. This song was included on a compilation album to benefit UNICEF. There were many artists who recorded songs on the album, but the Bee Gees gave all their of royalties from this song in any form to UNICEF. At that time, this was an unprecedented gift, they also gave UNICEF the publishing rights to Too Much Heaven. To date, Too Much Heaven has raised over 38 million dollars for UNICEF. In 1967, they wrote a song called To Love Somebody which appeared on their third album titled Bee Gees 1st, but it was their first international release, as the first two albums were only released in Australia. Bee Gees 1st was released in July '67. They wrote over 1100 songs for themselves and other artists. It would take you months for you to get through their entire music catalog. Otis Redding was set to record To Love Somebody on his next album. Sadly, Otis was killed in a plane crash, Dec 10,1967. For the longest time that they didn't record it for themselves, out of respect for Otis until his untimely death. Their brother Andy Gibb, also had a very successful solo career as well until his death on March 10, 1988, just 5 days after turning 30. Andy had developed myocarditis, inflammation of the heart, which was brought on by a viral infection. While most people recover from myocarditis, Andy's body was unable to fight the infection due to his history of drug use… so sad. The Bee Gees music is Timeless and I am thankful that their beautiful music is appreciated by all Generations past and present. Too Much Heaven is my favorite song. May the Brothers Gibb rest in peace!!
