The "I can't hear you" scene is my all time favorite movie scene
This has been said a lot about Japanese soldiers having their weapons jam. I personally think this is probably bogus. Likely they saw what he was doing and felt killing him would be dishonorable. But they couldn’t say they didn’t follow their orders to kill all the enemy. So they came up with this lie so they didn’t have to kill him.
But I could be wrong just a theory

The infantry rifles of the Japanese were very simple and reliable Type 38 and 99 bolt action rifles..They NEVER jammed………Yet several Japanese soldiers testified that they had Doss in their sights, pulled the trigger, only to get a misfire…………..Think he had help from above…………..

The real scene of the kicking the grenade… is actually way more impressive and brave as he got naded twice… and then the man even gave his stretcher away while treating another wounded Lol
The fact the movie downplayed how many lives he saved and how badly he got injured because it wouldn’t be believable shows what an inhuman man he truly was.
