I was turning 14 when this came out. Back then MTV was watched 24/7 on my TV and this song was played at least once an hour. Guys loved this as well as women because Steve Vai(guitar) and Billy Sheehan(Bass) both were very popular
As a teen in the 80s, I loved the music, but I did not need to see David's butt cheeks. I'd rather listen to the cassette than watch the video. LOL! This is David's id and ego unchained and set loose. My favorite DLR fun fact from this era is that he dated Apollonia Kotero when he was off tour. Prince was jealous of their relationship and did a split kick to make fun of David, but then made it part of his own routine.
Dave was the living embodiment of Bugs Bunny back in the day. Lol
Diamond Dave had his place back in the day. Van Halen was always a team effort band.
Every member of the band had something to bring to the table.
Some more than others at times but good old Dimond Dave brought showmanship and a somewhat ridiculous comedic quality to the band.
Dave's studio work and lyrics totally fit the bill.
Meanwhile hos live performances of the actual songs was never that great and in fact pretty awful most times.
But, he always put on a show.
He knew that 98% of the crowd was there to party and hook up with chicks. Just like him.
Dave's post VH career was kinda weird.
As. a young soldier stationed in Germany in 1988, I had the great fortune of scoring an all areas backstage pass to the Monsters of Rock Festival. Wandering around in complete awe of the rock an metal legends backstage, ther sat Diamond Dave in a full split taking a nap before his set.😮
DLR had a highly capable band for his early solo material. Steve Vai is one of the GOATs on guitar. And damn, not only was DLR arguably the greatest front man of all time, but he was extremely hyperactive.
Fun fact. That one guitar you see Steve Vai playing got stolen shortly after this video. Some guy a few years back in Mexico found it in his grandparents attic in perfect condition and reunited Vai with it.
God I miss the 80s and mtv music videos so many great memories! I seen David Lee Roth in concert with Tesla what a concert!
The 80s were a different time and DLR was a different creature. Fun.
