I set out to find the best Mexican food in London, visiting some of the city’s most talked about spots. From KOL, London’s only Michelin star Mexican restaurant, to Cavita, Fonda, Sonora Taqueria, CDMX Tacos, Mestizo, Zapote, and Azteca, I tried everything from authentic tacos and street food classics to high-end fine dining. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food in London, this guide covers it all: tacos, margaritas, and more. 🌮🇲🇽

  1. The first time I was in London (80s) I tried a Tex-Mex place in Queensway. Now the first red flag should have been that I couldn't smell anything – good bad indifferent. And when the sweet little waitress (wearing a cowboy hat and boots) got terribly excited because I was from Brooklyn ( sooooo close to Texas!) I knew I was in trouble. The menu was laminated and each dish was lovingly photographed. I crossed my fingers and made my choice and when it came it looked just like the photo. And tasted just like a photo. Someone in that kitchen had taken meticulous care to make that pseudofood look Perfect. Cardboard would have had more flavour. It's been 40-plus years now. Glad to see things are improving 😂

  2. I went to a lunch at Kol straight from a late flight into LGW not knowing at all what I was getting into. it was wild ( in no way anything I'd call Mexican, but it was good. ) Then my posh buddy who invited me dashed and left me with the bill. lol.
