#History of lightning strikes!! #shorts #ytshorts #Arjuna Sagar Explainers
#Lightning is one of nature’s most powerful and mysterious phenomena. Every second, more than 100 lightning bolts strike somewhere on Earth—a staggering number that means, on average, more than 8 million flashes occur worldwide every single day. Yet most of these flashes are unseen by people, either because they hit remote places, happen within clouds, or are so brief our eyes cannot catch them.
#Why does lightning happen?
Lightning is created when electric charges build up inside storm clouds. Warm air rises, cold air falls, and these movements inside clouds cause positive and negative charges to separate. When the difference becomes intense, electricity jumps suddenly—this is the powerful lightning bolt we see, often accompanied by a loud thunderclap. Most lightning strikes happen between clouds, but some reach down and strike the ground.
The History of Lightning
Lightning has fascinated and frightened humans for thousands of years. Ancient people linked it to gods and supernatural forces. Today, scientists study lightning to understand how storms form and how to keep people safe. Modern science shows lightning is also important for nature—it helps balance atmospheric electricity and even helps produce nitrogen used by plants.
Why so many strikes—and why can’t we see them all?
With the vast size of the planet and countless thunderstorms every day, most lightning bolts happen far from where we live. Many flashes are hidden inside clouds, invisible from the ground. Their incredibly short duration—a split second—means even those nearby may miss them. But whenever a storm rolls in, you’re watching a worldwide spectacle that’s happening non-stop, everywhere.
