The formation of the Scandinavian kingdoms is a story where legends, sagas, and historical facts intertwine into a single tapestry. How did Norway, Denmark, and Sweden transform from fragmented petty kingdoms into powerful medieval states? In this video, we trace the long and dramatic journey — from the first Vikings to crowned kings, from pagan tribes to Christian monarchies.

You will learn about legendary rulers such as Harald Fairhair — the first unifier of Norway, Cnut the Great — the ruler of an empire stretching from Denmark to England, and Harald Hardrada — the last great Viking king. We will also shed light on lesser-known but important figures like Sweyn Forkbeard, Magnus the Good, and Inge the Elder. We’ll show how dynasties were formed, capitals changed, early laws were introduced, and new lands were baptized.

This is a story of war and peace, of sword and word — of how Scandinavia was born in the whirlwind of rivalries, invasions, and ambition.

  1. Hmmm… 🇸🇪 guy here. Nice graphics and all but I found the video focusing too much individual kings and events for my taste. What’s really missing is the explanation that these three kingdoms all developed as trading networks which then coalesced into political entities. Denmark around controlling the straits. Norway literally meaning the northern trade route (up to the arctic) while Sweden formed around the trade route from the Lake Mälaren region and, very importantly, to the Baltic end of the Russian river system down to the Black and Caspian seas (Kievan Rus was essentially a Swedish Viking trading network, sometimes called ’Great Svithiod’, Sweden, in some sources). So, what parts ended up were was about trade more than any ethnicity.

  2. Day 19 of asking for a video about the Toungoo Empire — the largest empire in Southeast Asian history.

Please consider making a video about Bayinnaung, the greatest conqueror of Southeast Asia. He masterminded the Battle of Naungyo (10,000 vs 80,000) — one of history’s most impressive tactical victories. Unlike most conquerors, Bayinnaung expanded his empire through mercy, diplomacy, and unity, rather than mass killing or cruelty.

Please also cover the Sino-Burmese Wars, when the Konbaung Kingdom of Burma repelled four consecutive invasions by the Qing Empire of China. These wars were incredibly important — the Qing dynasty had already expanded China’s borders massively, annexing regions like Tibet. Burma’s victories prevented Southeast Asia from being absorbed into the Chinese empire, preserving the region’s independence and shaping its future.

I truly believe your channel would benefit from this topic. The Toungoo and Konbaung eras are full of brilliant military strategy, political innovation, and cultural significance that deserve far more attention.
