  1. Comments say the Ottoman Empire collapsed because of rebellions or missing the Industrial Revolution. Do you really think the Ottoman government was stupid enough to miss the Industrial Revolution? The real collapse was due to Europe gaining strength thanks to the tons of gold gained through geographical discoveries, but it also collapsed because of the Ottoman Empire's campaigns across three continents and the money it spent trying to defend itself. Of all the things that led to the Ottoman Empire's collapse, the biggest problem was MONEY.

  2. The Ottoman Empire was not among the truly great empires like the British, French, Spanish, Russian, Roman, American, Chinese, Ming, Persian, Japanese, Mongol, Brazilian, or Aztec. Instead, it was more of a mid-sized empire. Its territory included mostly small and medium powers such as Greece, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Syria, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Saudi Arabia. It only absorbed two major powers—Egypt and Iraq—and even those were not at their peak strength. Meanwhile, other great powers, like Iran (its closest rival), were never conquered by the Ottomans. This inability to subjugate Iran is one of the reasons why the Ottoman Empire never rose to the level of the world’s greatest empires.

  3. The Ottomans should have Turkified the lands they conquered. They had 600 years to do so. They abandoned the traditions of the steppes and abandoned the ways of the Turks. They became Arabized. Their absurd Islamic fantasies brought about their end. As a Turk, I don't feel sorry for them. We now have a modern country built for the Turks.
