To be clear when a merger happens, company A + Company B = Company AB
All shareholders get additional shares in the newly added company.
Whereas in acquisition you either buy a new business or sell your business to someone. In buying you invest money so in reality, you loose (until any profit from the new bought business). In selling you make money and exit.
