I’ve seen this method a lot. What I do is put them in cold water put them on the fire when it starts to simmer, so small moving bubbles. I set a timer four minutes later. I have a soft boiled egg.
Missed an important information. Time varies with the size. Jumbo eggs 18 minutes, XXL eggs 15 minutes, XL-L eggs 13 minutes. Ice cold water is not needed. Just plain cold tap water is sufficient for 30 seconds.
If that's the hard boiled egg after 12 minutes them my boiled egg is something this method can never achieve. My yolk is fully solid with no liquid whatsoever.
VINDICATION! This is EXACTLY how I've been boiling my eggs for a decade now and EVERYONE tells me I'm crazy for not throwing them into the boiling water and using ice. I KNEW this was a legit method! It's the only way I can consistently get the shells off without shredding the whites!!!
I cook mine for about 8min when I remember to set a timer, closer to 12 when I get distracted which is often 😅

40mins in ice
40mins in ice
Anything to ease the peeling process. I like to eat fresh eggs but not the half of the cooked egg sticking to the shell when trying to peel them.
4:45 exactly almost sous vide eggs
Please try Bangladeshi food 😊❤

Can you offer a reason when using my home layer eggs, if I do it this way my shell sticks to egg. But if I put in hot water peel perfect every time
