FYI the tape was meant for pick and place machines(vacuum pickup tool/pen) during PCB assembly from 8:49. Connectors like this cannot be picked up by vacuum so tapes were used to fix surface for pickup.

Fascinating they do test it, but when you get the thing it has design flaws incapable of operating.
