If you’re new here, I’m The Angry Explainer. My dream, and my one mission in life, was to prove I could excel academically despite my past failures.

But I wasn’t always good. To be honest, I was a complete mess at the start.

After dropping out of college twice, I was completely clueless about how to actually succeed in academics. After facing countless failures and endless frustration, I decided enough was enough.

I dedicated every waking hour to figuring out how to achieve one goal: getting into Latin America’s most prestigious university.

That’s when I discovered the power of strategic studying and ditched all the traditional, ineffective methods.

One year later, I secured one of only 12 spots at the University of São Paulo, competing against thousands of students with expensive prep courses and private tutors.

Now, my mission is to teach students around the world how to transform into the academic achiever of their dreams, the angry way.

I’ve been through the pain and struggles of figuring this out, so you don’t have to. If you’re reading this, stick around, and I’ll show you how to master The Angry Study System.

  1. HI, "that guy" here. Great, funny video with some actually good advice. However, I hate to say it, but your either me or your not me. I will now address each point one by one and tell you if they were what I did to be "that guy".

Studying? Absolutely not. The last test I studied for was a spelling test in the 3rd grade, which I failed. From that point forward I never studied again. For me it became a point of pride. I told myself I will either pass on my ability to learn or I would fail, and I do not like failing. The 5th grade is when I started making real effort to get straight A's, without studying. It was my way of really testing my method and it worked.

Sleep? No, I stayed up late and it wasn't rare to have only 5 – 6 hours. I was on autopilot most of my days.

Paying attention? Yes, most people somehow never seem to realize that everything is covered in class (at least in high school; college can be a little different). I never asked questions though, didn't need to. It always annoyed me when people did as it slowed me down. As for ignoring things, no. My mind is a recorder and it is all there, like I said you are either me or not me. There is no selective memory, it is all remembered, whether I want it to be or not.

Notes? Absolutely not. I never took notes unless the teacher made me for grading purposes (AP History was the only time). Even then, they would see no use. When it comes to wasting time, all of my free time was spent playing video games (a lot of time into budokai tenkaichi).

Mnemonics are always useful. Never made any myself though. The teachers would always tell us useful ones.

Finally, brain dumping is something I never did with pen and paper. Usually I would have a conversation in my head where I am teaching someone about the thing. I even do this today well after all the schooling. Unfortunately, it tends to turn a 5 minute shower into a 30 – 40 minute shower.

And now a quick story about being "that guy":

I remember in high school my AP History teacher would always ask everyone how long they studied after we had a test. I would always answer with, "I didn't". He would always have an exasperated look on his face and shake his head. It didn't change my grade though always got an A. Later when I took the AP exam I also did not study. I finished the test so fast that I actually thought I had skipped a few pages by mistake. I spent the remaining time meticulously checking for hidden pages like a crazy person. I scored a 4 if your curious (3 is passing and I think I got that with just the multiple choice section). I will never forget my teacher's reaction when he asked how long I study for the AP exam and I told him I didn't. I thought he might have a heart attack and keel over right there.

TLDR: This is all good advice, but "that guy" doesn't really use any of it to be "that guy". You are either him or not him. Passed AP History exam without studying because that is how "that guy" does it.
