How To Beat ANYONE in Pokemon VGC (Once You Know Their Color!)
most players prep for teams.
the best players prep for people.
because here’s the truth: understanding your opponent’s team is important. but understanding how your opponent THINKS? that’s the real competitive edge.
in this video i’m breaking down exactly how to beat all 4 player types in competitive pokemon vgc once you know their color.
🔴 Red (The General) – Aggressive & Structured
🟡 Yellow (The Gambler) – Aggressive & Flexible
🔵 Blue (The Architect) – Passive & Structured
🟢 Green (The Flow Player) – Passive & Flexible
this isn’t theory. this is battle psychology that i’ve used at regionals, in worlds qualification runs, and in coaching dozens of players to their breakthrough results.
what you’ll learn in this video:
how to identify your opponent’s color by turn 3
the exact weaknesses each color type has in battle
specific strategies to beat Red, Yellow, Blue, and Green players
how to change your pace and tempo to throw off their gameplan
why understanding people matters more than just matchups
how the best players “borrow” from all four colors to win

9:11 – Blue (The Architect)

13:24 – How the other colors view you
16:30 – How to beat each color
this framework has changed how i prep for tournaments, how i make reads during battles, and how i coach players to break through their plateaus.
if you’ve ever felt like you’re losing to the PERSON behind the team, not just the matchup… this video will give you the tools to turn that around.

real talk: you can have the perfect team, know every matchup, practice for hours… and still lose if you don’t understand the person sitting across from you.
the best players in the world don’t just prep teams. they prep for mindsets.
when you walk into battle, don’t ask “what’s the right move?” ask “what color am I playing?”
then reverse engineer the win.
next time you’re in team preview, try to guess your opponent’s color by turn 3. then use the strategies from this video to exploit their weaknesses.
let’s make your opponents mcfree by understanding them better than they understand themselves.
drop your color in the comments and tell me: which player type gives you the most trouble?

Thanks for your hard work!
If job interviews start asking me about my trainer color, I will never forgive you.
I'm Red without a doubt. I try to win games in less than 5 turns. As soon as my name pops up in team preview and my opponent sees Koraidon and Flutter Mane I'm sure they get chills (despite the sun). If I see a KO, I go for it. 252 Attack (or Sp,atk) and 252 Speed is my go-to spread. It's high risk, and very satisfying. I rarely ever make defensive plays though, so that could be another downside.
Great video! Everything you explained made a lot of sense and is very useful. I am definitely a yellow as there have been countless times where I have clicked a ghost move into a normal type expecting a switch.
Yellow Smogon player and I think I drive a lot of people crazy
Combination of blue and yellow. In Frankfurt I got 65th with Garchomp Vivillon Rotom-W Incineroar Kingambit and Sinistcha. I may run whacky teams but I am of the opinion that every Pokemon can be used to a certain degree. Finding out their strengths and looking for consistent gameplans is where my passion lies
Orange 😅
Don’t take this out of context bro 😂 (colour)
Interestingly enough, I thought i was Red/yellow but might fit more as a green. I've been playing hyper offence this reg where I developed game plans against the common archetypes, but also developed a habit of playing recklessly and trying to call out my opponent, often losing the game on a bad call. As I tried to adapt to bad matchups, I ended up with a balance mode on my team that always felt really fun to play.
For Reg f, Im now going to focus on playing balance teams and my general strategy so far has been to keep the game slow, identify my opponent's main threat – whether that be a sweeper, terrain setter or fake out blender – and take whittle that down with chip damage before blowing through the rest of the mons
