Watch as Tyler shares 5 steps in loading your dishwasher correctly. Plus a few extra tips to get those dirty dishes clean as a whistle.
Step 1: Should you clean all the food off your dishes before you place them in your dishwasher?
* Yes and No – You should scrape all the food off but do not rinse. Dishwasher soap needs something to cling to and if all the food it washed off already then the soap will cling to your dishes and weaken them. This could cause them to crack later on. This could also lead to glasses becoming hazy with a film.
Step 2: Dish placement: On the bottom rack you should put larger items in the back. This is not just for convenience but many dishwashers place more jets and will clean the larger more soiled pots and pans. Do not place glasses over the tines. This could cause the cups to move around and scratch and damage. Do not overlap the dishes either.
Step 3: Loading the utensil basket. Take advantage of what the manufactures provides you. You should then ad your utensil’s half up and half down so it eliminates some of the tendency for the forks and spoons to nest together and not receive the required water to clean. Knifes should always be placed down for safety reasons.
Sept 4: Don’t Block the wash arms are not blocked. Usually it is some time of handle or utensil that may be blocking the wash arms from turning.
Step 5: Don’t over load the dishwasher. This is the number 1 way to make it so your dishes do not clean.
Bonus: If there is a hazy film on your dishwasher. You may be using to much detergent. Try a lesser amount or a different type. You can also use rinse aid and this would help!
Bonus Tip #2: If your cycle did not clean check to make sure the soap dropped into the dishwasher. Many times large items can block the soap door from opening and it that happened the soap was never allowed to do its job.

I’m watching out of curiosity and thinking, I’m old, things are improved(questionable often🤦♀️) new ways. I actually READ my new dw booklet-PUT ALL SILVERWARE DOWN! And I quote: to insure proper washing! Do you guys EVER AGREE ON ANYTHING??? Renting so basic two rack and not all that good but then it’s the dw pods or powder but discouraged when the MOST EXPENSIVE is only ones that WORK! It’s money grabs and greed! So I’ll hand wash anyway, doing half my laundry anyway too since THEYRE greedy too-sheets TRIPLE THE PRICE instead of liquids or powders! BUH bye greedy monsters🤣🤡
I’m 41 and just purchased my first dishwasher 😊
At this video is not helpful to a large family, you can't just put in 3 dishes a glass and explain to people don't overload it… I need a concrete example how you put all dirth pots, fried pans, 10 bowls and 5 plates, 12 glasses and jars..in a nice way and they can all be cleaned..
0:35 If I don’t rinse/wash the dishes first, my dishes will not get clean. I will have dried on food left on dishes every time. Especially with things like peanut butter and sauces.
He says don’t let the dishes touch and proceeds to stack the bowls so they touch.
I wouldn’t let him load the dishwasher either.

I happen to have a very old-fashioned GE white dishwasher that only comes with the top/bottom racks. But silverware on the bottom is in the direct like middle "back" of the dishwasher itself (this is how old my dishwasher is). Unfortunately, I also have really bad hard water & on the inside of the dishwasher where the main detergent goes inside, it literally says: "fill for hard water, use less detergent for soft water." I noticed our dishes weren't getting as clean as they should have gotten clean in & even though it's not the best, when I started filling it a bit closer to the top, there was def. a difference in terms of cleanliness. Was not aware that not rinsing can wear down dishes & cause residue issues over time.
Wrong about utensils. They should always go handles up. Because when a person grabs them out they are holding the handle and not the part you put in your mouth! Please dont put your cutlery handles down! Gross….you dont know if the person washed their hands or not!!
