  1. Listening to you people will start consuming these products uncontrollably and fall sick . All these above mentioned items have daily upper limits for consumption. Either you mention the limits with the help of your qualified dietitians or give the disclaimer . You need to show responsibility by giving the links of the above mentioned studies like how they do in the western nutrition channels . You can’t just escape by saying some studies have proved this .

  2. In the video titled, How to Fix Slow Metabolism from Gunjan Shouts channel, Gunjan suggested 5 foods to boost one's metabolism however, this video is highly misleading for reasons more than one. Let's cover them one by one but anyone interested in watching that video before, below is the link –

Let’s break this claim down scientifically and examine each food’s actual effect on metabolism.

    1. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Claim: ACV boosts metabolism and burns fat.

Reality: Some small studies suggest ACV may help with appetite control, leading to slight calorie reduction, but there's no evidence that it significantly boosts metabolism.

The slight calorie burn comes from the digestion of the acetic acid, but the impact is negligible.

So, anyone consuming acv alone to reduce weight, without bringing any other change in lifestyle to create deficit, you're just going to lose hope, not weight.

    2. Green Tea

Claim: Green tea contains catechins (like EGCG) that boost metabolism and fat burning.

Reality: Green tea may have very little calorie burn effect however, not significant enough to create a deficit on its own.

    3. Ginger

Claim: Ginger stimulates metabolism and fat loss.

Reality: Some studies suggest ginger can increase thermogenesis (heat production in the body) However, the effect is minimal to the extent that it can't be used as the only intervention for weight loss.

    4. Ghee

Claim: Ghee contains medium-chain fatty acids, which the body can readily convert into energy and aid in fat burning

Reality: Ghee is just an energy dense food when overconsumed will lead to weight gain. Nothing else.

    5. Water

Claim: Dehydration leads to lower metabolism

Reality: While dehydration impairs various physiological function but when it comes to metabolism not so much.

When you're dehydrated, your body has to work harder to maintain normal physiological functions (e.g., regulating blood pressure, circulation, and body temperature). A small study from The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (2003) pointed that dehydration slightly reduces RMR because the body becomes less efficient at energy expenditure when water balance is low.

however, in the larger scheme of things, as long as there is deficit, you will lose fat. Hydration definitely has a role to play in fat loss but not in the way described in the video. Besides, water is essential for better health outcomes.

    The Science Behind Metabolism Boosting

Foods don’t dramatically increase metabolism. What matters more are:

Your total daily energy expenditure (calories burned from basal metabolism, activity, and digestion).

Your overall lifestyle: calorie deficit for fat loss (eating less calories from food and increase energy expenditure by improving your NEAT like walking etc., resistance training to preserve muscle, and protein intake to boost the thermic effect of food.

    Conclusion

Overall, from the context of boosting metabolism or losing fat, the video is classic example of majoring in minors meaning, focussing on trivial things for fat loss. You may definitely eat these foods as you wish, but without bringing any meaningful changes to your lifestyle as pointed above, don't expect magic. You'll be disappointed at the very least.
