  1. Hi Everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the video 🤗 Still traumatized from a fake Henry VIII shouting at us as kids 🤣 What is one thing you love about English Country style? For me it's the cozy fireplaces that overwhelm the living rooms. Let us know!

  2. Thank you for clarifying so beautifully the underpinnings of what makes English country home style so appealing. I think the appeal of late to Americans is a sense of wider global unease and a need to be grounded within the humbler spaces we inhabit. It's possible to translate the elements of that grounding, if you know what to look for, and you've shown us how. Even without a stone or brick centuries old manor or cottage, those earthy tones, wooden architectural accents, and comfortable, pulled-together spaces can be created. I've been exploring those same themes in my far less grand 109-year-old home here in Indiana, USA. The part of America I live in has a similar climate to parts of England, so I've been able to create outdoor garden spaces that are a nod to my love of the English countryside. This gives me a better guide here to follow.

  3. I have always loved the cottage style. The comfort and coziness and vintage charm it brings to an ordinary space.
Since I was a child, and Grandma had shown me an old family photo taken in front of a little stone house, I have always wanted to live in one. That particular stone house was built outside of a small desert town in Washington State, but I remember thinking it was so happy looking, so unique.
English cottages bring so much more to that cozy vibe I desire, with their thatched roof, mullioned windows and large stone walls rather than smaller stones gathered from the desert. 😄

From the American viewpoint, the honey colored Cotswolds stone imparts such a cozy, grounded, happy feeling. But I will be just as happy living in a stone cottage representative of the many other counties in England.
Maybe someday I can achieve at least a hint of English cottage style.

  4. Yet another great video. I'm so sorry about your King Henry trauma. I would have loved that as a kid. But, growing up in Canada, no such luck. Went to England all on my own two years ago, just to look at buildings but not the Cotswolds. It's recent fame is the power of great marketing. I did see London (the only city I love), Stoke on Trent, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. What a great trip it was.

  5. Thank you for this lovely video! When you were talking about books, I thought of the childhood books that made me love the English cottage style in the first place. The Andrew Lang fairy book series, Beatrix Potter's books, The Wind in the Willows, and of course The Hobbit. and (going into the adult books now) everything by the Inklings. Such lovely memories!
