What the OP forgot to mention is that you need to peel off the shell from the seed before you germinate them. The shell protects it from moisture that would otherwise damage the seedling due to lemon's acid. The plastic bottle is nice, but not required for seedling to grow. If you cover the seedling with bottle and take it off when it starts growing leaves, the seedling would get "shocked" due to change in air humidity and die, so you need to "harden" the plant by taking off the plastic bottle for one hour, and each day to prolong the plant's exposure to the outside world by 30 minutes more.
