Another great way to think about holding the bar is using a “Bulldog grip”. You know how bulldogs have their paws pointed inward? Same kind of concept here.. Doing that, and then torquing your grip into the bar will help create some good tension throughout your bench press – helping you stay safe & strong.
Hope this helps ✊🏼

Is this what they called "breaking the bar"?
I’m confused. Have you all not been holding your weights like this? THE WHOLE TIME???
Ur gonna change my bench press
You have really skinny wrists
Thanks
Wait, are there really people holding the bar with their fingers?
Thank you for this info, been having thumb issues since getting to 220lbs for reps, this made it dissapear completely.
Wow, I've been doing this incorrectly. Now I'll be doing it right. Thanks
This casually popped in my feed, and man! The improvement in editing style is humongous!
Quality supreme since day 1
anything you do to INCREASE your grip strength will increase your overall strength in an exercise.
Don’t really think it’s placement of thumb/heel
