what about this problem: I find that there are certain small strands of hair that get pulled way too tight (usually around my hairline or tom of me head), and when I try to fix it there are these awkward loose lumps of hair around my head. Do you use a beard brush or something to help get all the strands streamlined so there is equal 'pull' on all of them and no awkward lumpy areas?
See, you've probably come the closest to an actual bun (points off because you had to use two hair ties). All the other guys were making a halfway completed ponytail. Where you put the hair tie on, twist it, start to pull your hair through a second time and just stop in the middle. Not a bun. You though? 👍🏿👍🏿

yeah i never would've thought to use 2 hairbands, i've just been pulling my scalp to get enough tension for 1 hairband all this time lol
