Today we’re in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and I’m eating local Dominican street food for the first time! Moises is going to be taking us to some of his favorite spots to eat real Dominican street food!

Here are all the spots we tried:
Empanadas el Calvo (https://maps.app.goo.gl/KZPHu97VrUENyLY5A) – The best way to start your day is with an empanada, and this places makes some big and fully loaded empanadas. Price – 75 Pesos ($1.19) each
D’Mellos Pasteles en Hoja (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CTZ17S6bj9Kqit5Y6) – Next up we’re trying Dominican style pasteles, big tamales made from plantain steamed in banana leaves. Price – 150 Pesos ($2.38) each
Cafeteria Comedor Mary (https://maps.app.goo.gl/K7FvDNBDiDgBxzjA6) – This was one of the highlight meals of the day, an entire tray of Dominican food included rice and beans, stew, and an amazing avocado and banana. Price – 1,100 Pesos ($17.48) for everything
Pica Pollo Joa (https://maps.app.goo.gl/M952KbfZn6wAceaS8) – One of the greatest of all Dominican street foods is pica pollo fried chicken, legendary. Price – 400 Pesos ($6.36)
Picalonga en la Avenida San Vicente – Another night time street food in Santo Domingo is Picalonga, an assortment of meats grilled and fried. Price – 450 Pesos ($7.15)
Claudio Chimi (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4vCJ9CMJvcxYMNks9) – But the king of street food in Dominican Republic is the chimi burger, a unique burger creation and something you have to try when you’re in the DR! Price – 200 Pesos ($3.18)

Dominican here! I love this video. But Columbus didn't first come to what we call the DR now. It was actually on the Haitian side, which is now known as Cap-Haïtien. But of course, back then, the Island was one.

Actually pasteles en hoja are just another variation of tamales, it was actually brought by the African slaves who startes to make it with plantain, before the conquest we did not have plantains in America
