We went to a small Texas town where one Bitcoin mining facility uses as much power as the entire city of Austin.
Everyone is town is affected by the constant noise from the crypto facility, even the animals.
One resident told us: “Every person here is sick.”

  1. I would like to know why the crypto company needs water… As a small crypto miner we use no water, even a hydro miner uses sealed water cycle, and the submerged miners dont use water its a electro chemical. If you are talking about the power plants then that's different, that is a power station NOT crypto.

  2. So i looked into it a lot more the noise of the "miners" is WAY under 28db, the noise spikes and when it "goes up" is the attached power plants when they are making more power, so if the crypto leaves the noise will still be there the constant miner drone would leave. Also the water usage is ALSO the power plants cooling, again NOT crypto related… Crypto is getting a bad name but not a single word on AI data centers that are worse then crypto machines, you need to do a little more to this story to find the "real" issues in this debate which is HOW we get our power and the noise and pollution is causes

  3. My understanding is that Texas actually has a lot of excess / surplus energy that can’t be stored. This is why BTC miners setup there, as they can buy this surplus energy on the cheap during periods of lower demand (it doesn’t matter when they run their miners)

This is why they ‘get it cheaper’ just like if you ran your washing machine at night instead of the day

By becoming a buyer of the surplus energy, they also help make energy providers more efficient, both in preventing waste and increasing sales

I don’t think that BTC mining is perfect and I’ve no doubt there are periods when residents are competing with miners for electricity, but this documentary seems pretty one sided tbh – either not fully researched or with an agenda

  4. USA ppl becoming slaves of tech companies..and food companies..and pharmacy companies..Greatest county in the world my ass..what Rogan thinks of this? It is in his country..helped unknowilngly Trump to presidency..wthell is going on ppl of usa

  5. The water concern is a bit of a joke. The 1.5m gallons a day used by the mining center is the equivalent of the daily consumption of 1.5 square miles of corn. There's about 3,000 square miles of corn crops in Texas, plus all the other types of crops. The increase in water demand is not that much

The electricity and noise are the real concerns, no need to dilute the real issues with fluff that is discreditable.

  6. I felt bad for them until them all voting for Trump. They get exactly what they deserve. If you vote for a guy who wants deregulation and is pro crypto, you get deregulation and crypto mines. Enjoy.
