MAGA folks still in denial that racism is still around.
The scene of Trip about to be whipped for deserting is where Major Cabot Forbes really shined ..he called out Shaw in front of everybody.."not with a whip not on them!" because they were mostly escaped slaves that had been whipped enough ..then when Shaw told Cabot to never question his authority..he calls Shaw "Massa" and The "Boss Man" and how everybody must learn to obey ..that really had to cut deep
Forbes is the worst thing to happen to these men.
The Irish Sargent was the best friend these men had.
Being hard on them isn't for the sake a cruelty, it's to ensure they survive.
And damn Forbes for ever suggesting that because they may never see combat is an excuse to under prepare them for it.
