  1. This has nothing to do with startups or software engineering but this was So Spot On when He's character was disgusted when he found out the interviewee is Cantonese instead of Mandarin. Many years ago a Spanish speaking man who was interviewing me found out I didn't speak Spanish and he was confused because my surname is Spanish (I'm 1/4 Filipino but mostly non-Hispanic and grew up in the U.S. and I just want to add, some* Filipinos have Spanish surnames.) Anyway, he was confused and I could tell a bit uncomfortable.

He was clearly unhappy but will admit I wouldn't have been able to do the job long even though a tossed salad could do it blindfolded because I have a rare genetic disorder (Homocystinuria) and wasn't on disability at the time (long story) plus I look way younger than my age so people find it hard to believe a person can have a disorder but look "young" or "healthy" (I'm 44 now and that pic of me is only from like two or three years ago but people rarely believe me.) Oh well! Sorry for the random rant but Yeah, I can strangely relate to disappointing strangers with my background as well!! 😀 😃

EDIT: I just had to add, me being part Filipina, I'd get either disappointment, confusion, disgust or hate from people who are "more Filipino" and those who can't relate (and they tell me this) or I could only imagine if I went to any Asian country and get those reactions like Japan for example. It's so "close" by to the Philippine islands yet I'm sure there's some prejudices between Both groups. I don't mean this to be taken in a negative way but just something I could imagine being the case but I'm sure it could happen between different backgrounds etc from anywhere in the world. 😀
