“Let’s compare the boat scene from It—1990 vs. 2017, scene by scene.”

“First, in the 1990 version, Tim Curry’s Pennywise greets Georgie with a calm, eerie smile, keeping the tension low but unsettling.”

“Now, in the 2017 version, Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise greets Georgie with a creepy, childlike voice, but the horror feels more immediate.”

“In 1990, the balloon floats up, and the scene maintains a subtle dread with its slower pacing.”

“By contrast, the 2017 version ramps up the suspense, with sharper visuals and a darker tone.”

“Finally, when Pennywise attacks, the 1990 version keeps the horror off-screen, leaving much to the imagination.”

“In 2017, the attack is far more graphic and intense, showing Pennywise’s terrifying power up close.”

“Both versions have their strengths. Which do you think nailed the horror better—1990 or 2017?”

  1. Great show. Kai didn’t have to be so dismissive, but yeah, Gen X parents aren’t exposing their children to the culture in the way that parents of Millennials did.

And Gen alpha kids are going to be even worse 😬 My nephew considers anyone who came out before 2000 an “old head” lol

  2. I still think the 90s was ultimately more effective because the whole point of the clown bit was to not come across as malicious and play on the uncomfortable ambiguity of clowns. The music and transformations made sense in tandem with the target- which made it eerie and uncomfortable. The new design tries so hard to be scary out right that it’s like- how are we supposed to believe a child would entertain the conversation? The gas lighting was spot on though. Sympathy bait for days.
