In 1554, tensions were rising against Mary I. The public feared her return to strict Catholicism and then there was the deeply unpopular plan to marry Philip of Spain. Rebellion was imminent. And so Princess Elizabeth received advice to move to heavily fortified Donnington Castle.
The escalating fears led to the Wyatt Rebellion. Because of her proposed move and the suspicion of her involvement, Elizabeth was sent to the Tower of London. Mary’s council was convinced that Elizabeth knew the rebellion was going to happen and wanted to go to Donnington because its fortifications would keep her safer. When Elizabeth was interrogated about her possible removal to Donnington Castle, she responded with this famously cool rebuttal: ‘but what is that to the purpose, my lords, but that I may go to mine houses at all times.'”

Evelyn Edwards is a successful actress and history presenter. She has appeared on such shows as National Geographic’s Hydrogen vs. Hindenburg, Bosch, Criminal Minds, Castle, The Mentalist, Parenthood, The Thundermans, The Kicks, Marry Me, Outsourced, the Academy Award winning film Her, Mimi, and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master’s degree from UCLA and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love of history, castles, and photography together.
