October was another strong month for my Canadian ETF and dividend portfolio — now sitting at $440,000 across Wealthsimple and Questrade. I earned $1,345 in dividends this month, made one small but important change to my holdings, and re-evaluated a few positions to focus more on long-term growth.

In this update, I walk through:
🔹 My new portfolio total and updated retirement target
🔹 The REIT I sold and what I learned about holding vs. growing
🔹 A viewer’s great point about ETF overlap (VFV, VTI, QQC)
🔹 My growth vs. covered call ETF experiment results
🔹 How I’m rebuilding our emergency fund — and making it earn a little more

If you’re investing in Canada and building your wealth for retirement, this video is for you.
📊 Tools I use: Passiv, Wealthica, Blossom Social
💰 Accounts: Wealthsimple Trade, Questrade, TFSA, RRSP
🔹 Topics: Canadian investing, ETF strategy, dividend income, covered calls, retirement investing over 50

📈 Subscribe if you’re proving, like I am, that it’s never too late to build wealth in Canada.

  1. Great update Darren. I have the same hybrid style of investing you do with a small portion in covered call ETFs . I am about five years away from retirement and feel that total market. ETFs are a great foundational investment and I’m building out XEQT and VFV currently. As time goes on I may increase my HYLD and HHIS positions, but I still want to concentrate more on overall growth at this point. I think we are due for a market correction in the next year or so because of the crazy run we’ve had so I wanna keep a little dry powder on the side for that. All the best.
