  1. The college I teach at used to be a tech school back in the 70's. We still have shit like that and use it in our physics labs! Because it's a state school we cant just throw things away- there is a bunch of paperwork 😅. I'll point out that you are repurposing the old bits and see what they say. You may need to contact them and fill out paperwork, but good news, its just in N Ohio, so a couple hour drive might net you some real goodies! Get in touch, lets see what we can do! Ill try to send you an email if I can find the address.

  2. Oh man that is so cool I can't believe that there is still some of that stuff around like my grandfather showed me a lot of that stuff too and you know I don't know what happened to his stuff when he passed I have a feeling everybody just threw it away which really is upsetting so you're lucky to get that stuff that's cool

  3. schools don't teach any of this shit, or anything else useful anymore. i'm 22 and all my time in school was just spent learning about meaningless garbage that serves no purpose, instead of things that can be used to power, shape, create even bigger and better things.

the only school i ever went to where i felt like i actually learned things was down in FL, but due to family stuff i had to move states multiple times to OH and later TN which offered nothing useful. and since most schooling is set up to kill curiosity and the desire to learn, replacing it with… the ability to memorize what's in the book so you can pass the test rather than truly understanding what's behind it, almost nobody my age has any interest in this kind of shit at all either. Awesome!

  4. Seeing stuff like this is one of the things that I loved about my electrical apprenticeship. I always loved when one of our instructors would pull some ancient-looking pos from the shelf and use it as part of our lesson. "Someone brought me this off of their jobsite…" Even better if they got two and carefully cut one in half so we could see the guts in situ. Plus you never know on a job how old stuff is going to be and you might still see some of those older components around.
