Even a dark brown on my very fair complexion can be harsh, chocolate brown is softer and more flattering.

I've tried eyeliner in my upper lid ,but always marks on the lower lids. Even using waterproof eyeliner. And you can't cover the under inner lid with powder? D

I am 73 and have hooded eyes. I was told by a beauty expert to wear my eye liner on the lid under my lashes. What do you suggest?
I actually appreciate this tip. Im 50 and I've always wore it like this black as black! Lol. And I have been looking more tired in my eyes with my makeup. 🙁
I am a fair skinned ginger approaching 50, but because of my light complexion and features I switched up my liner colors years before I felt like it was aging me. I swapped black for gray, but my go-to is a soft, light brown. I use Cover Girl Perfect Blend Eyeliner Pencil in Smokey Taupe or the same in Charcoal. The gray gives the same effect as black but much less harsh. The smokey taupe really adds definition without looking heavy or overdone. Bonus–because it is light, your line doesn't have to be perfect! I can draw a thick line of it under my eyes, and it just looks smudgy without actually having to smudge! Great for a brown smoky eye!
By all means, we should all do what we feel best in. But it is also worth taking a good, long, objective look at your look, to see if it is still most flattering or in style. Dark eyeliner was the THING when we were in our teens and early adult years. At the end of the day, I liken staying stuck on your old eyeliner ways, to the high school teacher I had in 1994 (who was probably close to my current age) who wore a literal 6 inch beehive hairdo every day of her life! If you hold onto outdated styles, it will age you no matter what.
