With 1985’s Pale Rider, Clint Eastwood returned to the western genre with a vengeance as the movie became the highest grossing western of that decade. 1. Unforgiven was a flawless excellent film. But Pale Rider is better. In the future kids when you really wanna know what the West was about you watch this film. Men like LaHood crawled all over the west like vermin. They paved the way for the robber barons of the 19th century.

  2. This movie is one of my two strongest memories of Richard Dysart. The other is The Thing. An actor playing a villain opposite Clint Eastwood as the hero can become all the more distinguished. It was certainly true of Gene Hackman and John Malkovich.
