Explore one of the most fascinating processes plants can do: photosynthesis! In this Amoeba Sisters updated photosynthesis video, you will find a general overview of the light dependent and light independent reactions (Calvin Cycle) and how they work together to ultimately produce glucose. This video also compares the photosynthesis equation to the equation in cellular respiration. Still prefer the old video? It’s here: https://youtu.be/uixA8ZXx0KU

This video or the original (old) photosynthesis video can be used with our “Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration” handout on https://www.amoebasisters.com/handouts and our photosynthesis Unlectured series topic https://www.amoebasisters.com/unlectured

Video has been dubbed using an artificial voice via https://aloud.area120.google.com to increase accessibility. You can change the audio track language in the Settings menu.

We hope you like our updated photosynthesis video! Our old video was from 2014 when we were still just beginning, but if you prefer the old video, it will still remain up! https://youtu.be/uixA8ZXx0KU So what is different about this updated video? Please expand this comment!

    What has changed ?

This script is recognizably very similar to the old (original) video, which is why this updated video can still be used for any resources we previously made that involve photosynthesis. Most of this update involves improved drawings (Petunia) and recording (Pinky). To see what we use to make our vids, visit here: https://www.amoebasisters.com/pinkys-ed-tech-favorites/amoeba-sisters-tools-we-use We do use the plural of light dependent reactions and light independent reactions (instead of singular) in this updated video- we find that way it emphasizes that many reactions are happening here at once as the singular which could imply it's just one single reaction. We also added a fun fact at the end about CAM photosynthesis. (We'd love to make a video on C3, C4, and CAM plants in the future but this video does not go into that)

What about resources you've made that go with the old video ?

Old resources such as the free recap handout that we previously created comparing cellular respiration with photosynthesis can continue to be used with the old video or this new one, whichever you prefer. The old video link will remain up https://youtu.be/uixA8ZXx0KU If you purchased our Unlectured Series for photosynthesis, you can continue to use the old video or this new one. However, for the Unlectured Series, you will find that in a few days after this video publishes, we will have updated it on TpT to include an additional annotated video script template for this video and a few illustration updates on the slides. Remember, you can still use the original (old video) with the Unlectured Series, but we want to give you the option. You can access that by logging into TpT and going to "my purchases" to see the updated file. This is similar to our procedure for when we updated the cellular respiration video.

  2. This video answers one of the biggest questions i had about Biblical creation. In the 6 days of creation, everything basically makes sense chronologically except…plants were created before the sun. Here, we see there are light independent processes able to create glucose. What this means helps me understand more about the plants before the flood. What could feed 10 ton beasts roaming around. Huge varities of cactus type plants growing and regenerating wildly after being chomped on. Not the types of leafy trees we have now. Whoa! Thanks Amoeba sisters. What?!? The Bible and science are amazing!
