  1. Audrey Hepburn was the first to sing this song in the classic movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" based on the novel by Truman Capote.
It was written specifically for the movie. The music was composed by Henry Mancini ( famous for the Pink Panther and Peter Gunn themes ). Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics based on fond childhood memories of the Back River that he could see out his window – that river was renamed 'Moon River' in honor of the film. The song literally symbolizes Audrey's character's desire to leave her plain life for one of luxury. Huckleberry friend is a direct reference to Huckleberry Finn's relationship with the runaway slave Jim.

  2. Andy Williams' version of this beautiful song was on an album he released in 1962. 👍. P.S. This type music was called "popular" music. It was played on contemporary radio along with the current rock tunes! Our music in those days was very diverse. I might have heard this one and then a Sam Cook song (you mentioned him) and then maybe Marty Robbins with El Paso and then Ernie K Doe with Mother in Law and Dee Clark with Raindrops, then Dion with Runaway, etc. 🎶😎🎶

  3. Andy Williams had such a soft and smooth voice and his Christmas tv specials were the thing every family looked forward to each year at Christmas because they were the best from costumes, singing and just nostalgia, everything good in life. It just made your holidays great! He and Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Perry Como, Mel Torme are all up there in this same style of singing that just makes you feel good and happy and they are synonymous with Christmas. Andy takes us all back to the very early 70’s and it’s Christmas all over again. He had a great variety tv show but his Christmas specials were long awaited for each year. This song takes me back to an easier happier time! ❤
