Elton John was British and had been knighted.England already had a king. It’s not up to America to crown a British guy.
The phrase "Goodbye, Norma Jean" is the opening line of Elton John's song "Candle in the Wind" and refers to Marilyn Monroe's birth name, Norma Jeane. The song, written by Bernie Taupin, is a tribute to Monroe and a broader commentary on the destructive nature of fame, which often leads to people being immortalized in a tragic, frozen-in-time image.
Don't listen to the naysayers BP, love your channel, love it when the penny drops and you figure out what's going on. This song is a juxtaposition of the one person, a bright bubbly, fun loving Marilyn compared to the sad life she led behind the facade.
Marilyn Monroe
Listen to it she stood out
Some people are saying the suicide was her way to dissappear from public life and go into hiding. They say she's still alive and will come back. Just like many others!
Before the Princess Diana version in 1997, it was re-released as a live version in 1987 and hit #1 then too. That live version is my favorite; definitely worth a listen.
If you get a chance listen to the rendition he did for Princess Di… It is called Goodbye England's Rose. He only sang it one time at her funeral and there was a very limited release of a CD with the song on it. You can look it up there are a few different videos from the funeral so you can hear it. It is amazing https://youtu.be/OefdqK3jKi0?si=DQq6qELOVwtfIqB7
Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to all of John's songs. Elton provided the music.
