Everyone instantly goes into this song is about an abusive relationship. That's only partially true. Look at the lyrics carefully, and you will see that, yes, he is controlling and doesn't want her to speak up about them. The reason why is simple. She is, in fact, the other woman. She starts by saying something is pulling his attention away from her, and he won't listen about her falling in love with him. By the end, she says, "Hush hush now she will hear you." Talking about his wife. So yes, they are in a toxic relationship, just not how you think.

Aimee Mann has much more solo stuff then with the band and she is SO good at lyrics and melody! One of my fav solo songs by her is "Stupid Thing"
