They should just follow what Gene Roddenberry already showed and build on that he was correct on everything they showed in his version of Star Trek. The Flip Open Communicator = Cellphone, Portable Computing Device = laptops & tablets, Tactile Touch Screen Controls = Tactile Touch monitors + Keyboard+ tablets, Hypo Needles = Modern Med injectors, So far he is batting 1000%. He showed on a few episode what powered the Warp coils on a few episodes it was high Energy Plasma that was injected into the Warp Nacelles and spun using lower magnetic coils around the chamber to produce a far greater magnetic field then could be produced by electric coils alone.
I think that the idea first appeared in pulp s/f magazines of the 1930s?

Well whatever step we are currently at in the the construction of warp technology and warp bubbles it's all just an academic pursuit until we can accurately plan safe routes through space that won't leave us as fancy bug goo on a foreign planet. Also not just planning the route will be necessary but to effectively know where we are in relation to the route chosen with the ability to detect foreign bodies approach our space craft that wasn't on the route. Also the out location detection and object (collision) detection will need to penetrate the warp bubble. I loved it when some scientists said it broke laws and that this theory was all pointless. I told that guy 15 years ago well I guess science needs to catch up don't you think? Since this mode of transportation is absolutely possible. It made me think what if Neanderthals where to see a car moving at 70 mph. Also the power requirements are not the problem currently (yes the required energy is holy shit level currently) but we are in the process of developing efficient energy production, after efficiency goals are met we can proceed to scalability. Also a plasma generation plant won't really be usable in space for the simple reason of cooling the dang thing down (well unless you actually want to create a sun in a space ship, not me though) the greatest thing about matter and anti matter besides energy production and limited radiation emissions is the ability to vent directly into space without causing calamity in space doing so. You could eject the entire core into space and besides the explosion and brief radiation emissions there would be nothing more dangerous other than floating debris from the core.
If space is being moved around the spaceship then nothing should run into the ship because everything on a sub atomic level around the ship is displaced. Once the destination arrives to the spaceship, then the whole "warped" area must be moved back to it's original position with the ship. Right??
It won't ever happen because it's not real science. There's a lot of fraud and bullshit going around in the scientific community. Just like they will never find aliens, yet they believe they exist based on their bulls hit probability math. Just because it makes sense, or caters to your point of view or beliefs, it doesn't make it true. I have an open mind; but science is about observation and comming up with ideas and theory to explain it. However those theories don't always pan out to be true. Science is a process of discovery, and it needs confirmation from many, not some crack pot theory or idea from a few. Ask yourself why we don't have fusion energy (and most likely never will).

If we ever do get warp drives, do you think people will use terms like "engage" and stuff from old shows or do you think they'll be too embarrased to do that?
FTL warp drives absolutely break causality, like every FTL method does by definition.
so what still 1000 years of development to go?…. sorry dude but our civilization and our planet will not hold together for that long anymore
