And the brands who act like sulfates are like poison and then add sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate in their shampoos that are marketed as sulfate-free 😭 It’s incredibly drying. They’re just tricking people into buying their products at this point.
Well, I know from the days when silicones were loaded into every product (about 15 years ago) and the rise of sulfate free shampoos that completely ruined my hair for a time. It wasn’t that silicones are bad necessarily (depends on the kind) and it wasn’t that sulfate free shampoos were bad either, but the combination was NOT GOOD. I came to learn that silicones need sulfate shampoos, and some silicones are better than others. There are silicones that do not easily wash out even with sulfates/chelating shampoos, and too much of those silicones can coat your hair to a point where ZERO moisture can get in. Once I learned this I was selective about the silicones I used and actually had to use Dawn Dish soap to try and break up some of that silicone shell I developed. It worked, but lesson learned. Shampoo is important. That’s why I never followed the curly girl method. Curls require all kinds of products, so a good clarifying shampoo is crucial.
Hi, I’m a biologist from Italy and I have some knowledge about this topic. From what I understood this whole silicone hate started not because of a health concern but because of an environmental concern: silicones are in fact a micro pollutant, they can be disruptive to aquatic habitats. This useful information went out there and then from that it became some sort of a telephone game, people started thinking it was toxic (which isn’t true), brands picked up the “silicone free” claim as marketing and now here we are. Personally as a biologist I avoid silicones in my haircare simply because I don’t want to contribute to this kind of pollution, with that said if you live in a big city with a decent wastewater purification system you can probably use them. If you go to the beach, to the mountains or to places where wastewater can’t be properly treated then please consider using safer alternatives for the environment, not just silicone-wise but also considering other ingredients as well

What to do when your hair just falling out like crazy?
I think it's also because of like. The curly girl stuff, which doesn't work on people with straight hair the same way
The wild part is that it would be those same people who demonize silicone in their hair who were walking around with silicone implants in their 🍒

The part before you talked about your app is EXACTLY WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING
Silicone is microplastic and that is not so good for us or the environment ❤
without silicones, my hair would be dead 😉
