I was literally just thinking about this the other day. It's like the use of the word hack. So bullshit. Even print on demand involves work on your end. And well made, well packaged prints done solo involves work. It can be super profitable, but the time spent in the beginning is daunting.
The thumbnail made me click right away. "Passive income" streams are rarely passive.
I really like the you talk about art biz. It's like "aiming for the stars while keeping your feet on the ground" (Isaac Asimov wrote something like that).
It helps a lot. Makes me realize it's not a fairytale dream but still something really cool and… dreamy
Thank you for being so Honest about this topic where so many people are trying to Scam others for making them believe in an utopia. I believe that we always need to put some effort in anything we’re building because through it we build experiences and learn how to work it out to get it where we want it to be. You just get yourself a Subscriber. Thank you again for being so Honest. Please, people be careful of so many Scammers out there; they just want to take your hard earned money and go get the next victim. You’re the one actually making them make that money they are telling you that they are making. Be aware out there.
Facts. I will say there can be like semi-passive income. Like selling digital products, print on demand, or anything where you can make a sale and it gets automatically shipped to the customer, but the amount of work to set up stuff like that and market is not passive at all. Not to mention checking orders to make sure everything goes through and much more.
Thank you for sharing this. I watch a lot of small business vlogs, and because of this, I get a lot of recommendations from Youtube about print on demand stuff. A lot of them have the title, "how I made six figures in a week" or something similar to that. I never click on those videos because something about it just never clicked with me.
To be honest, the only way I can see someone making six figures in a week is if they use every SEO trick in the book to market their products. (And there's nothing wrong with that, everybody has to market.)
But I'm very skeptical at those SEO tips working for everyone out there. At the end of the day, we're all supposed to be making different products from each other. Even if people hop on a trendy product, they still have to make that product unique to them and their shop.
So yeah, someone can make six figures in a week selling their unique product, but how well does that work for the 1 thousand people watching the video who all have their own unique style?
So yeah, thank you for sharing this. It's nice to see people acknowledging that most businesses start at a fairly slow pace, and it takes considerable effort and practice for things to pick up.
Most people forget that you have to work before you earn. I am still on the working path to one day eventually to earn something. Thank you for your effort to tell people the truth, that making art is work.
I spent last year writing a book on everything I know about art & tech. Ive been doing content creation (web design) of one sort or another since my son was born. He is 27 now–showing my age. I actually gave up on it because of the amount of work that goes into all of it–marketing. (I have health problems) I agree with you, its NOT passive. It takes a tremendous about of work to be an artist these days. So much so my book covers one topic a day. Thats 365 things you need to know about or do as an artist. The sad part is I could have even gone farther. Now I need to put in the time again marketing it when Im basically starting over on platforms. Its gotten me to the point of burn out an i frankly wonder if I should even try anymore. You & others like you that actually get this take a lot of work Keep me inspired that it is actually possible to make real income. For years I gave up on getting any traction an went into family photography instead. They need more people like you who are actually honest about the effort it does take. Well done!
Great information, lots to think about. Thank you Kelsey!
I kiiiinda had passive income. During the pandemic i had stuff listed online and since the supply and demand was out of balance people would buy a lot of stuff with very little maintenance… so it wasnt passive income but it was… kinda, easy and it would take 40 minutes of my day tops while i worked on a proper job.
