Did you say 4th Century BC? Holy Crap. We can't even get public works as great as that in the 21st Century!
And to think that some countries barely have running water today… many places in Africa don't have any running water.
It's hard to imagine keeping a constant level for over 400k, but I do know how it was done. You start at the source and use the water itself as your level. If it runs in the right direction you keep going. If it lowers, you find a lower way to go. You keep the water level constant till you get there, with as much height left as possible. That extra height provides the pumping pressure that runs fountains and reaches the higher stories of buildings.
I cannot wrap my head around just how damn impressive this is.. USA is barely 250 years old
We know so much about the roman civilization because they kept such meticulous records. Yet they never wrote anything down about the charge, trial, or execution of the fictional figure known as jesus.
