In old Spanish, the X was pronounced like the Spanish J today (the sound in "Haha" or "Hot"). That is why Mexico and Texas are spelled with an X but read with a J sound.
Fun fact:
Mexico Is in theory pronounced "me-shee-ko" due to the náhuatl languages but most of the population (including me) pronounces it like "me-hee-ko"
Mexico history is literally no country for old men because its so in tge shadows and much unknown
Great❤
